Ransomware is a kind of virus that uses encryption to keep a victim's data hostage. The vital data of a person or organisation is encrypted, making it impossible for them to access files, databases, or apps. Then a ransom is asked in order to get access.

The Kronos Private Cloud, which comprises companie's Workforce Central, UKG TeleStaff, Healthcare Extensions, and Banking Scheduling Solutions, was the target of the attack identified by company on Saturday.

“A critical vulnerability was discovered in Log4j (a popular logging package for Java software) that is eploited by the attackers.”

Bob Hughes, executive vice president for UKG

“We are working with leading cyber security experts to assess and resolve the situation, and have notified the authorities,"

All Kronos Private Cloud products are unavailable, according to UKG, and it might take several weeks for service to be restored.
